The Gulf of Mexico will now appear as the Gulf of America for U.S. users of Apple Maps, Bing Maps and Google Maps.

The federal government, including the military, is changing the name on maps to "Gulf of America." Even Google suggested it would make the change.

Google Maps updates the Gulf of Mexico’s name to Gulf of America for U.S. users, following a government directive.

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum earlier this month jokingly suggested North America, including the United States, be renamed "Mexican America" - a historic name used on an early map of the region.
