An ex-TikTok user sought the help of RedNote users, to reconnect with her long-lost Chinese classmate, Simon. She was able to find him in just under 24 hours with the help of the Chinese social media app.

A rare wave of U.S.-China camaraderie broke out online in recent days as “refugees” from the popular short video platform TikTok poured onto a Chinese social media platform to protest a now-delayed ban on the service.

If the U.S. government wants to ban TikTok, Americans might flock to a different Chinese social media app. About a week before the potential ban, TikTokkers are posting about moving to RedNote, known in China as Xiaohongshu. So many are migrating to the app that it hit No. 1 on Apple's U.S. App Store on Monday.
