A special election to replace outgoing state Sen. Randy Fine and former state Rep. Joel Rudman, who are running for congressional seats, has been set.

A Special Election has been called to replace state Sen. Randy Fine in Senate District 19. Gov. Ron DeSantis has scheduled a Special Primary for April 1, with a Special General Election to be held on June 10.

The American Civil Liberties Union has sued DeSantis for having “violated his mandatory duty under the Florida Constitution and state law by failing to call a special election” and “effectively disenfranchising voters in House District 3 and Senate District 19.”

The Legislature’s resistance harkens back to a time in which lawmakers regularly pushed back against the governor.
